Okay. So, I'm sitting on my bed, thinking of what to say to get this thing started. This probably isn't the best thing, because I'm an Advertising student and communication is key in this industry.
Student. That is what I am. I should probably give you a bit of insight into who I am, and why I am doing this. My name is Mark Peters, and I am a 2nd year Advertising student from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. I want to be an Art Director and ultimately, a Creative Director for an agency, so snap me up now while I'm fresh prospective employers. Unfortunately the competiton out there is fierce for this line of work, but that just means I have to work harder. In saying I want to be an Art Director, I am also studying Copywriting, which is one of two core subjects you can choose in my particular course. You can either do Art, or Copy. I chose both, because I realised I had a knack for coming up with those perfect one liners for the creative I was working on.
Exposure. This is what I hope to gain out of this venture into the unknown, because I literally don't know who could be reading this. Peers, other Ad students, people who have no understanding or knowledge of the Advertising industry whatsoever, my future employer... I want to share my life as an ad student, which means I'll talk about what happens on a day-to-day basis, the assignments I'll be doing, the groups I'll be working with... Etcetera, etcetera.
Oh. The name of the blog. That comes from my "Black Book", where I write all of my sporadic ideas down in. This blog happens to be in there too, so I am actually executing one of the ideas from "the first black book" of mine. Ha.
